Becoming an expert...

I'm not sure when it happened, but at some point I became an expert on all things job related. I'm not saying I'm an expert in my field...hell no...I've got a lot to learn. No, I'm talking about the job search, networking, interviewing, negotiating, etc.

Now I'm not self-centered enough to call myself an expert, but every one of my friends and family thinks I am. I just got off the phone with my brother, whom I haven't talked with for months and who is older than me and who does EVERYTHING better than me (at least he and my parents think so). And HE actually called ME asking for interview advice. Wow. He must've spoke with my sister because I recently helped she and my brother-in-law prepare for interviews. Two weeks ago, an old coworker had me edit his resume and he credits me with getting the interview.

Honestly, this is a great feeling because when I was in grad school, I was awful at interviewing, at resume writing and at negotiations. Seriously awful. During interviews, I would basically just bull-shit with the interviewer about anything, never explaining why I belonged in the job. Man, was I bad. But now I'm living proof that an MBA does have some value. All of those "soft skill" classes I thought were worthless have helped me move into a job I love and have allowed me to help friends and family.

And I guess I have a job to fall back onto if this one doesn't work out...career counselor.

Got any career questions? Apparently I have the answers.

Career advice? What should I do with my life?

Personally, I think you belong on the Food Network. You're significantly more entertaining than most of the current line-up, especially Paula Dean and Rachel Ray. But I'm not sure if you're ready to hang with Alton Brown. I love me some Alton Brown.
